FAQS
Why choose Proton Pen Derma Needling over Dermabrasion
Proton pen Derma Needling is a brand that combines a pre treatment peel before the derma needling and hyaluronic infusion thus being a lot more effective than the needling on its own.
While this treatment can be a little painful no numbing is required and downtime is minimal.
At Body and Soul, we prefer the results that derma needling gives our clients over dermabrasion, seeing visible differences in refinement in pore size, skin texture and colour. It addresses chronic redness and rosacea also addressing the appearance of scars. You will certainly feel like you face has had a workout. Treatments are best done in a series of 4 x 1 monthly to allow time for the release of chemical mediators for restructuring and regeneration of the skin through collagen formation. See our web site for prices.
What is Derma Needling
Micro needling or derma needling uses stainless cartridges containing 12 needles .15mm -1.55mm stainless needles to reduce pore size and refine skin. Micro needling triggers a healing response from the body helping to rejuvenate the skin while preserving epidermal integrity.
What is Dermabrasion
Dermabrasion as done previously in Beauty Clinics was a technique which involved the sand papering of the skin either with very fine silica crystals blasted through a suction head or using diamond head attachments with suction. Either method has advantages or disadvantages but both are used to refine the epidermis reducing pore size, stimulating collagen production and reducing fine lines and wrinkles.
Will Derma Needling leave my skin red?
Micro needling or derma needling uses stainless cartridges containing 12 needles .15mm -1.55mm stainless needles to reduce pore size and refine skin. 102 head Silicon, cone, cartridge nano needles are used for more sensitive areas like under eyes and around lips. In the clinic this treatment may be a little more painful than the dermabrasion but tends to give greater results. Micro needling triggers a healing response from the body helping to rejuvenate the skin while preserving epidermal integrity.
Is Derma Needling painful?
This treatment may be a little more painful than dermabrasion but tends to give greater results. Patients typically feel some mild discomfort(moreso over bony areas) during their microneedling sessions, but it is generally not considered very painful. Numbing cream can be requested if you are nervous or anxious about the procedure. For more sensitive areas (like under eyes and around lips) we use the nanoneedling technique utilising 102 head Silicon, cone, cartridge nano needles.
Will I be able to have Derma Needling?
Patients of any skin type are candidates for treatment as long as you do not have any active infections or lesions. Candidates should be prepared to wait 1 – 2 months after the initial four treatments before seeing results, since it takes time for new collagen and elastin to produce a noticeable difference in your skin. While microneedling treatment is safe and effective, it is not recommended for pregnant women or individuals using certain acne medications.
What should I avoid after Derma Needling?
To ensure proper healing, we encourage patients to observe the following instructions for at least 24 hours after treatment.
Avoid direct sunlight and exposure to harmful UV rays
Do not go swimming or immerse your face in water
Avoid strenuous exercise or any activities that promote sweating
Do not apply make-up or lotions
Is there much downtime after Derma Needling?
Whether you choose microneedling for acne scars or other skin issues, you will notice that the skin appears bright and red following your session. For this reason, we do not recommend planning any significant events right after your appointment. Downtime varies from person to person, but generally, you may experience mild redness and mild swelling for about 24 hours after your microneedling treatment. We recommend 4 treatments spaced 1 month apart to see visible improvements, as the body requires time to produce new collagen and elastin. Results will continue to improve for a few months as the collagen remodels. Ask your skin care specialist about planning maintenance treatments, scheduled every 4 – 6 weeks for the most optimal results.
